General Information
The Battery takes part in Living History, Reenactment, Memorial services, Civil War Grave Marker restoration and Battlefield
preservation. We take great pride in what we have accomplished and how we portray our Civil War ancestors during events
but we also realize that this is a hobby and is meant to be fun and we strive to do it Historically correct.
We are a very family oriented unit, several times during the year our families attend events with us, but majority of the
time it's just the men. We try to attend an event each month but on occasion we will have an event every weekend or
every other weekend but members are not required to attend every event.
We are also a Horse drawn artillery
unit, which means that we can pull our gun and limber with horses. We are associated with Captain Lumsden's (Oestenstad) Birmingham,
AL horse drawn artillery unit and during the National Reenactments we fall in with them. PLEASE!! understand that
you don't have to be a horse expert to join us. Majority of the members fall in and man the artillery piece.
We try to hold artillery and horse drills a couple of times during the year, but that depends on how active we are during
that time. We hold a company meeting the first of the year, where we elect new officers for the up coming campaign and
pay annual dues. Note: Members who attend events are also required to pay a event fee ($25.00) which helps
pay for hauling and towing the artillery piece & horse's and other materials to and from events.
Membership Information
If it sounds like a interesting hobby in which you would like to join, Stanford's Battery is always looking for new
members. We have some uniform materials in which you may use during events until you are able to purchase your own.
We do require that you attend at least one living history and/or one reenactment before you are officially enlisted into the
Battery. All member nominees will be voted in or not by Active members of the battery.
