The National Civil War Artillery Association sent a team of instructors to the event. We invited Instructor from the U.S. Field Artillery Association but we couldn't get a response.

The 2008 & 2009  Event went very well ! We will hold it again next year.
We still need to get local units involved because for year's they have been asking us "when will yall have another event ?"  Well, were having events again and the local units have fallen off the face of the earth. This event is for historical preservation along with safety instructions for ALL units in and around the artillery.
Look at what happen at Beauvoir/Fall Muster 2009  The Infantry had no clue to what a hot tube sign was and kept marching into a loaded gun. Real smart folks. Do you want our little hobby to survive ? Then get on the same safety page as the rest of us who take great pride in keeping our hobby safe and seeing that it continuous for our next generation. We all have heard what the Federal Government Say's about our hobby and it's going to take just one little accident and it to will be history just like the history we re-enact every weekend.   Thanks goes out to all the units attending and we'll see yall next year.
Thank You Again for attending.

Have you been to events and seen artillery crew's performing on the gun in a way that it scares you to death. We have, even from folks who claim to be certified by a Artillery organization & guess what ! So has the Federal Government.  With the world we live in today like it is our Government has to make sure our country remains safe. That means regulations on almost everything dealing with explosives and yes that mean's Black Powder. They are very close to mandating restrictions on our little hobby of Living History / Re-enactments. Trust me, with my connection's with the ATF things are in the works! It's only going to take one incident with a artillery piece at an event and bam, RESTRICTIONS.  The Army of Mississippi (AOM)Artillery Detachment is trying to do it's part to get all the Artillery units in the area on the same Safety Conscience page. We got one of our members certified with the United States Field Artillery Association & were now working on getting re-certified with the National Civil War Artillery Association. We will also be teaching and going by the United State's Department of the Interior "National Park Service" rules and guidelines. Stanford's put on the very first School of the battery in the area over 25 years ago and were trying to get it started up again. Everyone is invited to take part and that includes Infantry & Cavalry. Because those branches also need to learn how to maneuver in and around the artillery Safely. Each year starting with 2008 the AOM will host a different scenario school of the battery. It will be held again this year at the Circle W Plantation in Utica Mississippi and if Turner's Mississippi Battery want's to get involved we will hold it in Starkville Mississippi every other year or whenever they feel comfortable to do so.. Once again it will be held at a Plantation where U.S. General James McPherson artillery detachment encamped and pillaged "the plantation" during there march to Raymond. Matter of fact General Grant's messenger rode through the Plantation on his way to Gen. McPherson's HQ which is only .6 miles away, and gave him the new order to go to Raymond instead of Edwards (Station). We have 400 acres of historical property to work on. Deny it all you want, we've been re-enacting a very long time and we know how re-enactors think, but when that incident happens and our Government starts those very strict regulation on our hobby don't go blaming our Government blame yourselves for not taking the opportunity to get on the same page for safety with the unit's who do attempt to make our hobby safer. Despite the turn out we will be holding artillery drills and horse maneuvers regardless and everyone is invited to fall in with us. This will be a living history but with drill's as the main goal. The combined "Skirmish" will be the only thing open to the public, then following that the camp's will be open for them to come in and ask question's. If your unit feel's like doing drill's for them, it is your call. This is a event for you and your unit's to drill, recruit, talk to the spectators, this is Your Camp. Your idea's and remarks are welcome. Please e-mail us or give us a call.
So take a part in keeping our hobby safe!
