The State of the Battery meeting went VERY well, the best one we've had in many many years.
Our
first horse drill went great but we still need a lot of drilling time. The Live Shoot with Turner's Battery was fun. Port
Hudson was scrubbed. Shiloh was rained out. Selma was perfect, we had the honor of our NEW Army of Mississippi Artillery Detachment
sister group Turner's Mississippi Battery and there original 3" rifle falling in with us at ole Fort Mississippi.
Can't wait to do it again next year. Jackson Crossroad's was very fun, we had a blast being Confederate and blasting
away at those dern Yankees. Our return to French Camp was a ball once again we fell in with Turner's. The Trail of Honor
was very special. We had the honor to meet MWD EOD K9 Rex and his handlers family. God Bless them.
The Beauvoir re-opening
was fun also. We' were the Federal Artillery & Command position for the Fall Muster at Beauvoir Oct.17-19. We
had a good time there. It need's a few changes to improve it for 09' and they have promised they would.
We had
the Mid-Campaign Battery Meeting & Horse Drill (two-day's) and it went very well. We didn't go to the national
Chickamauga . One of our driver's just had back surgery and will be out for about 6 months.. (NOTE: Not
due to an injury from our horse drawn detachment) Let's keep him in our prayers. We also had one of our wheel team
horse cut his leg & hoof and he will be out for the remainder of the year . We'fell in with Captain Oestenstad while
at the Chickamauga NMP . We had Davis Mill's but the date's are the same as Chickamauga NMP so we'll
plan to attend Davis Mill's next year.
Chickamauga is a once in a life
time true artlleryman's dream. We'set up camp and did maneuvers on the actual battlefield park.We returned to
the Manship House in Jackson for our second year. This was a fun little one day deal.
The
School of the Battery, hosted by the Army of Mississippi Artillery Detachment Stanford's Mississippi Battery. Oct. 31
- Nov. 2 went VERY WELL. THANK YOU goes out to everyone who attended. We sent a member over to Arkansas to get certified by the U.S. Field Artillery Association out of Fort
Sill, Ok. That went very well minus the evacuation due to IKE! Even though they didn't send any instructors
over the Mississippi River to help us out with the School of the Battery the National Civil War Artillery Association did
send instructors down from Michigan. The NCWAA had 23 new members join there association while they were at the Army of Mississippi
School of the Battery. They said they will be returning to our event each year.
We are now re-certified with the National Civil War Artillery Association . . This is
a shot in the arm for us. We can foresee what the future has in stall for our little hobby we just hope other's catch
on before something happens to it. We had 12 members attend the Fall Muster, it makes me wish we had another gun. I know where
one is for sale up in Ohio but that's just wishful thinking. So I hope everyone out there who read's this can
make an effort to come out to an event and join in with us. Remember what we do is YOUR HISTORY TOO. We are done for 2008
if yall would send in any request for our attendance for 2009 events we would love to take a look at them and vote on them
during our "State of the Battery meeting" which we try to hold during the second weekend of February..
2008
was a great year, minus Rodeo's stunt. We look forward to 2009 and being fully horse drawn artillery. All we need now
are new folks to join in all the fun. New Recruits are required!! Start Recruiting your friends, neighbors, in-laws anybody
as long as they can fit into a uniform. See yall next year.
We have placed the web sites of the events who has one on
our site.
Please feel free to go to them and check them out. You just might want to attend.
